Driving safely and without distraction is everyone’s responsibility. Yet thousands – if not millions – of Americans forget this basic responsibility each day. Year after year, distracted driving habits rank highly among the causes of car accidents across the country, which is why the National Safety Council (NSC) has officially extended Distracted Driving Awareness Month to the end of October.

Originally, the month was going to be held just in April, as it is every year. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic prompted the NSC to postpone its observance until after the strictest lockdown measures were completed.

At Kalfus & Nachman PC in Virginia, we always honor and observe Distracted Driving Awareness Month. As experienced personal injury lawyers, we have seen far too many cases in which someone was seriously or permanently injured due to the negligence of a distracted driver. By spreading awareness of this issue, we hope we can stop future crashes from ever occurring. If we help prevent even one accident, then our efforts and that of the NSC are a success, but we want to stop them all, of course.

Attorney Paul Hernandez has participated in Distracted Driving Awareness Month by:

  • Speaking to more than 10,000 students about the dangers of distracted driving throughout the last six years.
  • Earning recognition by EndDD.org due to his student and community engagement efforts.
  • Appearing on the Hampton Roads Show across the last seven years to provide driving safety tips to viewers.

Furthermore, our law firm likes to give away free car chargers, keychains, and cellphone wallets to spread awareness among people who visit our law firm. Every little bit helps in this ongoing fight against such a dangerous and prevalent driving habit. In fact, you can help spread awareness, too, by sharing this blog with your friends and family. We really appreciate anything you do to help stop distracted driving.
