Rabid Cat Attacks Dogs in Lynchburg

A rabid cat attacked a man and his dogs in Lynchburg on June 8, 2018.

According to the Lynchburg Police Department, Animal Control responded to a residential area after receiving reports of an animal attack.

When Animal Control arrived they were informed by a resident that a feral cat attacked him as he was leaving his house. The cat attacked his leg without provocation, and the cat also attacked and bit a nearby dog under its eye and scratched a puppy.

Officials say the cat was displaying symptoms that they believed to be rabies. The cat was captured and was tested for rabies. Test results stated that the cat did in fact have rabies.

The Lynchburg Police Department is still investigating.
