Speed and Alcohol: A Deadly Combination

On June 3, 2018 in Virginia Beach, a Lexus SUV driven by 73-year-old Maria Fox was traveling eastbound on River Road. It made a right turn onto Great Neck Road, going south, and was struck on the back left side by a four-door Hyundai Sonata driven by Anthony Spence, 53, of Florida. After the crash, Spence and a passenger fled the scene on foot. Police located the pair after a brief search. Spence and his passenger were uninjured; Fox died at the scene.

Alcohol and speed played a role in the crash, Police stated.

Police charged Spence with driving while intoxicated, involuntary manslaughter-DUI, hit and run, and refusing a blood/breath test.
