Just For Men Hair Dye Product Lawsuit

Seeking Compensation for Your Distress

If you have had a bad experience using any hair dye product in the Just for Men line, you may be eligible for compensation. Please read the following message to see if you qualify.

Just for Men, owned by personal-care company Combe Incorporated, is a product line of male-targeted hair, beard, and mustache dyes. Products are lathered, brushed, or combed in depending on product and location of hair.

After using a Just for Men product, some customers reported that they experienced chemical burns, painful blisters, rashes, redness, or scarring. It has an overall satisfaction rating of one out of five stars on ConsumerAffairs.com.

On the website, complaints included "stinging sensations," "facial blistering and leakage coming from the blisters," "open sore[s]," and "hair... falling out"; as a result, many customers sought medical care. Many stated that they grew embarrassed because of these side effects. If you have suffered any of these side effects following use of Just for Men, our Virginia product liability attorneys may be able to help.

The Paraphenylenediamine Problem

The ingredient that has seemingly caused the most issue is for customers is p-Phenylenediamine (PPD), which is mainly used as a dye intermediate to provide a natural-looking color.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PPD can cause severe dermatitis of the eyes, ears, scalp, or face. Chemical burns on skin that came into contact with the product may also occur.

According to the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (NJ), p-Phenylenediamine can affect consumers when they breathe it in, even if the ingredient never comes into contact with their skin. Breathing it in can cause irritation of the throat and nose, leading to wheezing or shortness of breath.

Other listed symptoms of PPD exposure include:

  • Asthma-like allergy
  • Potential damage to liver and kidneys
  • Headaches, fatigue, or dizziness
  • Abdominal pain, nausea, and high blood pressure
  • In serious cases, high levels can cause collapse and/or death

Those who repeatedly dye their hair using this product are increasing their risk of a negative reaction. According to a study by the Research Center for Hairdressers and Beauticians in Hellerup, Denmark, hair dyes that have PPD are the prime cause of the allergy to PPD. Individuals who work often with PPD, such as hairdressers, are more prone to developing complications over time. Just for Men hair products could be dangerous to your health, and you may be eligible for compensation.
